Royal Caribbean says they are cancelling the Spectrum of the Seas cruise due to a “pre-existing condition”, but what exactly is it? The company used vague language and has not yet explained this situation.
Royal Caribbean has been forced to cancel the “Spectrum of the Seas” cruise. The cancellation is because of a lack of interest from guests. Read more in detail here: royal caribbean cancelled cruises 2022.
Royal Caribbean was forced to cancel the vessel’s October 21 voyage after Spectrum of the Seas just recently began operations from Hong Kong. Despite strict testing protocols, vaccination regulations, and considerable health and safety precautions aboard, one crew member tested positive with COVID-19 from the outset.
Today, October 22, it was revealed that the crew member had tested negative in follow-up testing at nearby hospitals. Despite this, the Hong Kong government has decided not to allow the present cruise to proceed. The Spectrum of the Seas was supposed to launch in July, but there have been multiple delays since then.
The cruise has been canceled due to government directives.
So far, the commencement of Spectrum of the Seas’ activities has not gone well. The Hong Kong Department of Health compelled Royal Caribbean to postpone the October 21 sailing after operations began on October 14.
The Spectrum of the Seas was supposed to go on a four-night ‘Seacation,’ when the ship would be at sea near to port. The cause for this is a crew member’s first positive test.

During regular testing aboard, the crew member, who had been completely vaccinated and had previously been sick with the illness in July of this year, tested positive for COVID-19 with extremely low virus levels.
“During regular testing today, one crew member had a questionable result and proved positive for COVID-19 asymptomatic case in the second test,” Royal Caribbean stated in a note to passengers on the October 21 cruise. This team was in charge of the back office and had no interaction with the visitors. Before boarding, all 1,250 crew members aboard the Spectrum of the Seas received the requisite vaccinations, passed a PCR test, and underwent pertinent health screening, all with negative findings.”

The 40-year-old was taken onshore to undergo further testing. The Captain informed 1,000 of the 1,200 passengers who had begun boarding that the trip had been canceled and that all passengers would be subjected to mandatory testing.
“The crew member who is asymptomatic was promptly isolated and is being being watched by our medical staff,” the cruise company added in the letter. Spectrum’s sailing on October 21 has been canceled due to HKSAR government guidelines for your health and safety. All visitors are free to return home on their own. We apologize for any trouble this has caused.”

As of now, it seems that the crew member has tested negative in follow-up testing at a nearby hospital. The cancellation comes as Hong Kong is undergoing some of the most stringent regulations in the world, which have been working against Royal Caribbean’s start-up for some months. The city, which is administered by the Chinese, has recorded over 12,300 cases and 213 fatalities.
Multiple Delays Afflicted Spectrum of the Seas
Royal Caribbean will be questioning whether operating in Hong Kong was a wise decision in the first place. Due to the rigorous precautions in place in the city, the cruise line had to repeatedly postpone the launch of Spectrum of the Seas.
Crew members were compelled to endure a 21-day quarantine within the city before boarding the ship, which was originally slated to set sail on July 30. Due to an influx of returning students, the cruise company was obliged to postpone sails until October due to a general scarcity of hotel rooms.

In September of this year, further crew issues emerged, leading Royal Caribbean to cancel trips between October 5 and 14. After the Hong Kong government tightened limits and tightened requirements for travellers from Europe, North America, and Asia, this happened. It makes it difficult for crew members to travel from their home nations to the vessel.
Out of Hong Kong, Spectrum of the Seas offers four- and three-night weekend cruises to nowhere. The Quantum Ultra class cruise ship will begin providing worldwide voyages including a stop in Japan on January 12, 2022. Only fully vaccinated Hong Kong citizens are eligible to take the trips to nowhere.
Royal Caribbean has been forced to cancel the “Spectrum of the Seas Cruise” due to a hurricane. The cruise is scheduled for October 10th, but will be canceled on September 27th. Reference: royal caribbean news today.
