Finnair is selling top tier elite status on certain airlines, including American Airlines and Oneworld. Elite members will enjoy lounge access, priority check-in, boarding passes for all flights departing from Helsinki Airport with the exception of Finnair’s own aircraft. This document outlines what those benefits entail.
Finnair is selling the “finnair plus” which includes lounge access on American, oneworld airlines. The top tier elite status can be purchased with a one-time fee or by paying for a yearly membership.
Finnair is offering top-tier elite status for sale (Includes Lounge Access on American, oneworld Airlines)
on December 16, 2021 by Gary Leff
Finnair, an American Airlines partner and oneworld member, is providing a 100 percent bonus on bought points, with elite status miles earned as well. You may purchase miles for an award ticket and become a mid-tier or top-tier elite without traveling until December 27.
Finnair elite status is oneworld status, thus it’s a win-win situation.
- Oneworld sapphire is Finnair Plus Gold. That means you’ll get access to American Airlines’ lounges, including the Flagship lounge, even on domestic flights inside the United States (something American reserves for their own Concierge Key members).
This is especially true for Europeans. Gold members are entitled to four one-way upgrades on European flights.
- Oneworld Emerald is Finnair Plus Platinum. While flying on oneworld airlines that provide the product, regardless of the level of service flown, and when the lounges are available, it includes first class lounge access. You may use British Airways Galleries First, Cathay Pacific Wing and Pier first-class lounges, Qantas first-class lounges, and other airlines’ first-class lounges.
Platinum members get two business class upgrades on long-haul flights and four on European routes, and they may nominate someone for Gold status (who will become a oneworld sapphire and get American Airlines Flagship lounge access).

If you purchase 160,000 Finnair points, you will get 320,000 points as well as 80,000 elite qualifying points, granting you Gold status and hence oneworld Sapphire rank.
You’ll get 400,000 points + 100,000 elite qualifying points if you purchase 200,000 points (EUR2575). For Platinum, you’ll need another 50,000 points. Finnair, on the other hand, allows you to convert your redeemable miles into elite qualifying points at a 3:1 ratio (for €10 online or €20 over the phone). So, if you convert 150,000 points, you’ll get a net of:
- Points: 250,000
- Platinum status and 150,000 elite points
When it comes to the value of the miles, Finnair Plus’ partner rewards are often pricey, but redeeming for travel on Finnair is more affordable – 80,000 miles each way for domestic flights in the United States (plus fuel surcharges).
